Alexander McQueen Sans Alexander McQueen

There can be a lot to be said about what kinds of feelings are involved with producing a collection in a house whose founder is no longer alive. Yves Saint Laurent famously interpreted the Dior legacy and continued the house in a different direction after the death of Christian Dior himself. Yves' house itself has been reengineered again and again during and after his death.

The interesting thing about going forward with designing without the house's founder is the pending fate of the house without it's founder. Being new to fashion and not having been second hand witness to much of fashion history, it is interesting trying to figure out how clothes are being designed and shown with the stigma of the founder's absence.

Alexander McQueen (the fashion house) through the hands and mind of Sarah Burton will slowly become different, but the elements of her first collection for McQueen are beautifully transitional. I saw many of this collections elements come from past collections that characterize what has composed collections from the past. Being with McQueen for 15 years is Burton's obvious advantage in doing so.

Her finesse of the McQueen archives was well spent on the knights piece from the "It's Only a Game" collection. Let's see if you can spot the references.

I think there are still good things to come of the McQueen house.
